O holy one thy knowledge I yearn,
With years comes wisdom and lessons yet to learn.
At 70, His Holiness, Tenzin Gyatso, the 14th Dalai Lama, is an epitome of wisdom and humility. Despite or because of his past, the 14th Dalai Lama seems a very human figure - open about his helplessness, knowing what he should do but choosing to act otherwise. Some may call him a coward for having to flee his homeland and seek refuge.But doing so makes him all the more human and someone you can relate to. He dissected and exposed the very roots of human behavior in his talk about his vision of peace, war and reconciliation. He doesn't seek to be God or all-knowing. 'I have nothing new to offer', he said. His thoughts are clear, consistent and simple. I was overwhelmed by his gentleness as he touched the hearts of the 36,000 present, like a kind grandfather bestowing his profound wisdom upon his grandchildren.
Funny he reminds me of my own granpa :)

well! i wasn't sure then. will i get a blogger discount if i do?
blogging has taken a back seat :(, me crushed by academicia and ambitions and bewildered objectives!! *sigh*
but ever since that day, i have been tormented by a recurring thought. His philosophy and his actions are indeed appealing and it does feel right to the heart, but why doesnt it work? Today, there is no realistic chance that tibet will even get genuine autonomy, and chinese rule entrenches itself more deeply each day. The dalai lama himself has realised the futility of calling for complete independence now. He has done the right thing, but hasnt he failed his people. Wouldn't a more belligerent leader who fought the chinese have given the tibetan people their freedom and self-respect back. The Dalai lama has achieved greatness, but sadly the tibetan people have lost it...

point taken rahul. but if u rememeber he clearly mentioned that these changes will not take place overnight. it will take a while for these in n more of a while to put them into practice. People are really disheartened by the fact that the bid for independence of Tibet has not been a successful one. If it had, it would've been just another story of heroism and matyrdom. So the next time anyone can feel free to declare war and expect such victory and heroism from their handful of brave men. But here's something we have which will get us thinking about our inconsistencies of being human. It may imply that being human comes with these shortfalls, but it is certainly avoidable to an extent. The Dalai Lama is merely using this example to create an awareness of sorts. We tend to learn more from failure than from success. It an irony really!

you are right! his life is a lesson to all of us. We can hope the chinese government takes it too. But, you know as well as i do that it isn't happening. My only wail was for a world where such goodness would go rewarded, so that the next time people are at that crossroad, they are encouraged to take the right path. But, we see the jews securing Israel by going to war, and the palestinians getting their land back by terrorism, but the tibetans losing out because they took the right path...
